Here I Am

Released October 28, 2026 • 12:07 • Narrated by Leah
0:00 / 12:07

Have you ever heard someone call your name in the middle of the night? Young Samuel did — three times! Every time, he hopped out of bed, ran across the cold stone floor to Eli the priest, and said, Here I am! But Eli hadn’t called him. Someone else was calling Samuel by name, Someone he had never heard before. Come along to the First Book of Samuel, chapters 1 through 3, to meet Hannah, who prayed for years for a baby boy, and the boy who learned to say, Speak, Lord, for Thy servant hears.

For grown-ups
Samuel lived in God's house, yet he didn't recognize God's voice until Eli helped him know what to listen for. That is a beautiful picture of our job as parents, grandparents, and godparents: we can't hear God for our children, but we can teach them how to listen and what to listen for. The episode keeps it kid-sized: we come to know God's voice the way we know Mom's voice across a crowded store, by spending time with Him in prayer and in His Word. Try praying Samuel's little prayer together at bedtime ("Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening") and then sitting quietly for a moment. The story also doesn't shy away from the hard part: God asked a young boy to tell the truth when it was scary, and He gave him the words. Your child is never too little for God to use.

Where in the World Is Paul? Suit Up!

A letter just came in the mail, and it’s about two thousand years old. It’s from Paul, who walked, sailed, and got shipwrecked (more than once!) telling the world about Jesus, then wrote letters to his friends from all kinds of places. So before we read this one, there’s a mystery to solve: Where in the world is Paul? Grab your magnifying glass and follow the clues. Come along to Ephesians, chapter 6, and suit up in the whole armor of God! Be Still

God’s people are finally free — until they look back and see every chariot in Egypt racing after them. In front of them, the sea. Behind them, Pharaoh’s army. Nowhere to go. But the God who has been leading them all along, as a walking pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, isn’t finished yet, and Moses tells the frightened crowd exactly what to do: The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still. Come along to Exodus, chapters 13 and 14, to walk on dry ground right through the middle of the sea, and to practice being still with the God who always leads the way. Let My People Go

A note for grown-ups: this episode covers the ten plagues and the first Passover. The tenth plague is named in one sentence and handled gently, with the focus on God’s rescue — but you may want to listen alongside your youngest. Moses was a prince of Egypt, then a runaway, then a shepherd for forty long years — until one ordinary day, a bush caught fire and didn’t burn up. God sent him back to stand in front of the most powerful king on earth and say four words: Let my people go. Pharaoh answered with a question: “Who is the Lord?” Over ten plagues, including frogs in the beds and a throne full of them, he found out. Come along to Exodus, chapters 2 through 13, to meet the God who sees, hears, and knows, and who held the door to safety open for anyone willing to trust Him.
